■ University of St. Thomas
To have confidence in my English
At least I feel I can survive here without any difficulties

International Business Law

Lecture

There are just 3 huge papers throughout the spring semester, with no tests. So, the prof basically grades us based just on those 3 papers.? The prof was seriously hard-grader.

The object of this course is we make sure that we get the sense of what the international business is, and learn what it takes to be a good leader in the future society.

Well, not only is English not my first language, but most of the legal article are also written using lots of intricate words I had not even heard of, which made me think about dropping out of it. Yet, as the class went along, I could get to know some in the class and could ask them to help me out with the paper. And the thing is that we are technically allowed to work on those papers in a team, and arrive at the same conclusion as other members, as long as we turn in our own paper. So, this class turned out to be kind of blow-off class.

Psychology

There are 4 quiz throughout the semester, and one final. Those are composed of multiple choice, which I think made it a lot easier to keep up with the lecture. Each quiz has 50 questions, each of which is equivalent to 2 points. And in the process of the prof giving out the course grade, he is going to count out the lowest score of the first 4 quiz. ??1st 86 ,2nd 74, 3rd 84. ( I goofed off before the 2nd one. Im sorry)

What grabbed my attention most so far was how the Freudian ( the follower of Freud’s) thought about their lives. According to the school, every single 5~8 year ole boy has the desire to have a sexual intercourse with their mom, which I totally doubt.

It seems that the prof of my class is the most famous prof in the psychology department. He himself likes joking around in the class, which I suppose made all the students feel close to the prof. It was kinda impressive that in the first class, he could identify all the students in the class without looking at the pictures or something.

American culture and Difference

授業形式: discussion and lecture

We have a fairly long paper both for midterm and for final. Other than those two papers, we had to turn in 2 page-long reflection paper on the article assigned for the each class. And we all are required to have a oral-presentation about anything we want to talk about American culture. I got Bplus for mine.

The interesting thing about this course is that in spite of the size of the classroom huge enough to hold more than 100 people, there are just 10 students, including me. However, such a small environment makes us feel compelled to speak out in the class. At the same time, it turned out that this could would be the one where I felt most comfortable, compared to 2 other classes.? What we did in this course was basically looking over the history of the United States by using lots of articles ranging from music, native Americans, to Disney, Nike.

I guess what I said in the last space would be same here.

International Business Law

題材:How to start business in Ireland

内容:we represented one imaginary company, and chewed on what the best way to enter into business in Ireland was, choosing any one of the 3 strategies; Foreign investment, licensing of intellectual property, or foreign trade.

感想:

What frustrated me most in this project was the staggering amount of reading. Like 500 pages or something. Reading typical 500 pages-long books doesnt sound that bad. But, it took me a lot of time to handle all those articles.??

International Business Law

Making the contract

内容: we represents one imaginary company and make one contract which is generally considered to be beneficial to both parties, that is, buyer and seller.

感想:

This is what we are working on right now as the final project in this class. I dont think it takes as much time as the last 2 papers to write. But we are assigned into a group of 5 people, all of whom get the same grade based on what kind of contract we can make. So, once I screw up somewhere, that would affect the grade of everyone else’s. I’m sure the feeling after turning in this paper would be awesome, cuz I can be off the hook for it.

When it comes to the size of the each class, the number of the students in japan is like ten-times as much as here, so the students don’t care about doing something else, which has nothing to do with the class itself. And most of the students are paying for the tuition on their own, so they focus on the lecture, which I like.

Well, I don’t think I can tell with number or percentage how much my English got better in the last year.

But, all I can say about my English is my English has reached to the point where I can feel comfortable with talking with native speaker. and many people asked me if I am from here, which I think was huge compliment.

Weekday

In the morning: class??? in the afternoon: get stuck in the library and study, after that have dinner with friends and do something fun depending on how much hw I had for the next day.

Friday night:

basically no memory

Weekend:

go to the mall or do sports, and we all start getting ourselves back to the school stuff on Sunday night.
Well, I was lucky to have two really good roommates, which I don’t even want to change for anything. Plus, UST has a whole bunch of international students from nearly 30 countries, so it was fun hanging out with those internationals as well.
the best memory was the Christmas time at one of my roommate’s house in Wisconsin.?

The worst hardship; hmmmmm,,,, I guess the life here was so much fun that even single bad memory comes up in my mind now.
Watching stupid show in the MTV
Basically there is in no way I could spend the last year without PC. Well, there are lots of computers available throughout the library, but still my own computer made the life here a lot easier and more convenient.
My mom kept calling me roughly once a week.
In the first couple weeks, I used the writing center to ask them to proofread each paper. But I realized that it would be nice to ask to friends to correct them.

Well, this was my first time to be away from my family for such a long time. And I thought I would miss japan so bad before coming here, but I never miss the life there, which I think would be the sign that I became more mature and independent.
I am sure that I come back here in the United States for MBA

Don’t be overwhelmed by lots of Chinese
